How to Choose the Right Size for Bracelets & Necklaces

Ordering chain maille jewelry online shouldn’t feel like rolling for luck—you deserve a perfect fit every time. To help you avoid the dreaded “too tight” or “too loose” curse, here’s a quick guide on how to measure and pick the right size.

⚔️ For Bracelets

Think of your wrist as your character stat—you need accurate numbers before you equip your gear.

Step 1: Measure Your Wrist

  • Grab a flexible tape measure (or a strip of paper/string if you don’t have one).
  • Wrap it snugly around your wrist at the spot you’d normally wear a bracelet.
  • Note the measurement in inches or centimeters.

Step 2: Add Comfort Space

  • For a snug fit (like a stealthy rogue), add about ¼ inch (0.5 cm).
  • For a standard fit (balanced and comfortable), add about ½ inch (1.25 cm).
  • For a looser fit (like a relaxed bard), add about ¾ inch (2 cm) or more.

👉 Order the bracelet size that matches your measurement + comfort space.

🛡️ For Necklaces

Different lengths suit different styles—think of it like choosing your character class.

Step 1: Grab a Tape Measure or String

  • Wrap it around your neck at the spot where you’d like the chain to rest.
  • Check the measurement in inches/centimeters.

Step 2: Compare with Common Necklace Lengths

  • 16″ (40 cm): Choker fit (close to the neck)
  • 18″ (45 cm): Standard length (hits around the collarbone)
  • 20–22″ (50–55 cm): Slightly longer, sits just below the collarbone
  • 24″+ (60 cm+): Longer, rests on the chest—great for statement pieces

Step 3: Think About Style

  • Do you want the piece to sit high and bold (paladin armor style)?
  • Or hang lower and flowy (wizard’s robe accessory)?
  • Choose the length that matches your vibe.

🎲 Pro Tips for a Critical Success

  • Always measure twice—it saves you from crit-failing your order.
  • If you’re gifting, sneakily borrow a bracelet or necklace they wear often and measure that.
  • When in doubt, go a little longer—it’s easier to size down than to magically add more rings later.

Finding the right size doesn’t have to be a gamble. A quick measurement ensures your chain maille jewelry fits like it was crafted just for you—because it was.

About Me

I grew up in a small town in Ontario, where creativity was part of everyday life. My grandfather first introduced me to craftsmanship through woodcarving where he would teach weekly classes, while my mom sparked my imagination with books with fantasy and medieval stories. Those early influences shaped who I am today—a maker with one foot in history and the other in fantasy.

In high school, I discovered Dungeons & Dragons, and that opened up a whole new world. I first wanted a bag of my own and when my girlfriend at the time could not find one she bought me a set of pliers and rings with a note stating some assembly required. Before long, I was crafting and selling chainmaille dice bags at my local gaming convention each year, and after noticing how many fellow adventurers loved them at the table thought it would be something to share with the world. From there, my passion for chainmaille only grew. With a constant need to learn a branched into ties, jewelry, belts and even a full maille shirt.

These days, GeekMaille is my way of blending artistry with fandom. I’ve always had a fascination with dragons and mythological beasts, and when I’m not weaving rings, you’ll often find me enjoying a game of D&D or Magic: The Gathering.

Every piece I create celebrates the geeky stories and games that connect us.
